ELMS - 09/07/2018 - Jeff CARTER
The Anglo-Irish trio bounced back with a convincing win in Round 2 at Monza and they now return to the Red Bull Ring where they took their second victory of the 2017 season last year.
We caught up with Aaron Scott as he prepares for a return to the twists and turns of the Red Bull Ring on the 20-22 July for Round 3 of the 2018 European Le Mans Series.
Q: Monza was a great event with a win, which must have felt great after the disappointment of Paul Ricard. Do you think you can keep the momentum going in Austria?
“Yes I think so. We’re a pretty strong team, we’re super motivated and we’re certainly up for the challenge. We’re always aware how quick the Porsche is, but that sort of thing is out of our hands. We just need to get our strategy right and we can be there. Red Bull Ring is a track I really like, we won there last year, so hopefully we can do it again.”
Q: You, Matt and Duncan won at the Red Bull Ring in 2017, what are your thoughts on this circuit? How different is it from Le Castellet and Monza?
“It’s a fantastic track and it’s a lovely place to drive. The biggest difficulty there, as in Monza, is it gets pretty busy with the LMP3 cars, so that can make the race a little bit difficult for us because there is less of a speed difference than say Spa or somewhere like that. That can be an advantage or it can play against you, so we’ll try and keep our noses clean and have a strong race.”
Q: Do you feel having an unchanged driver line up from last year, and having the same Spirit of Race team around you, gives you an advantage in such a competitive LMGTE class?
“For sure. We all know each other well; we know the car, so I think the continuity is a real strong point. Matt leads the team really well and Duncan has a really good driving this year, he is really motivated. So hopefully this will give us the result in Austria.”
The 4 Hours of Red Bull Ring will take place on Sunday 22 July and is Round 3 of the 2018 European Le Mans Series.
