ELMS - 17/06/2014
Team Info
For
the second time in a row, NewBlood by Morand Racing received the chequered flag
in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Continuity was the #43 Morgan-Judd BMW with Dunlop tyres, and change was a new driver line-up with Christian Klien (Austria, b. 1983), Gary Hirsch (Switzerland, b. 1987) and Romain Brandela (France, b. 1973). As in 2012, the team had a trouble-free race in the top 10 of the LM P2 class, despite a huge rainstorm in the early laps of the, high competition and huge traffic on the race track.
Gary Hirsch started his first 24 Hours and had the great satisfaction to see the chequered flag after a very consistent and convincing race. The combination of Christian Klien's prototype and Le Mans experience with the information collected by the team in 2013 once again showcased the team's high standard, a regular feature for NewBlood by Morand Racing since its endurance debut in 2013.
Christian Klien -“In the end it is a good result for the team and for our package. We did not have the fastest car but we have a very good team with good mechanics, a very good car and we did not suffer any problem. The most important in Le Mans is to make no mistake in order to finish the race in the top 10. We finish sixth in our class and we can all be happy about this.”
Romain Brandela - “For me, these 24 Hours of Le Mans were very intense. It was really magic because I was driving a very competitive car. Being at the wheel for my stints had to do with pressure but also pleasure, I really enjoyed my last stint.”
Gary Hirsch -“First of all I am really pleased to finish my first 24 Hours. Frankly, I expected a much more difficult race and we did not have any problem. As for me, being at the wheel to receive the chequered flag was highly emotional. Reaching the straight and seeing so many people in the pit lane and the grandstands was really something! I would like to thank Benoit and all his team. We demonstrated that we had a good speed and that we remained in the good pace in the LMP2 grid, which is very competitive.”
Benoit Morand: the team owner's final world -“The rain in the early part of the race was of great help, because we lacked speed on the dry track, especially in the Mulsanne straight. We took the right decisions for us to avoid any engine problem. Our engine was in Le Mans spec, which is quite different from the engine we use in the European Le Mans Series. I think that Christian completed an outstanding race. Gary's times were very consistent and quite similar as Christian's. Romain did his best. I am extremely proud of the team. Once again we are one of the teams which spend very little time in the pits, we had no problem with the car and we find the rightest strategy.”
For NewBlood by Morand Racing, the next event will be the third round of the 2014 European Le Mans Series on July 19-20 on the Red Bull Ring (Austria). For Christian Klien, this will be a race on home turf.> 10 days to go before Le Castellet - Le 09/07/2020 à 11:00
