ELMS - 24/05/2013
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a race every endurance driver dreams of taking part in and the European Le Mans Series offers a ‘free pass' to the event to the winners of each class in the series. Thus, the LMP2 champion will take his place in LMP2 for Le Mans, the two first winners of LMGTE will be offered entries in LMGTE Pro, and the new GTC category would be able to run in the LMGTE Am class. Concerning the LMPC Category, the new 2013 ELMS regulation offers an LMP2 ticket to Le Mans 24 Hours 2014 for the winner of the class in 2013.
For the 90th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, over a quarter of the entrants (15 teams) will come directly from the European Le Mans Series.
Ten teams will be competing in LMP2. Thiriet by TDS Racing, 2012 ELMS champions and current series leader following its victory in Imola, will be there with its ORECA 03-Nissan, bearing a new number for the occasion as the No.1 is not available to the team for Le Mans, as n°1 in Le Mans is allocated to FIA WEC 2012 World Champion. While HVM Status GP wasn't on the grid for the first round at Silverstone, the Canadian team brought its car to Imola and scored points; it will also be on track at Le Mans on 22nd/23rd June. Race Performance will be participating once more with its ORECA 03-Judd in the La Sarthe round, while Jota Sport and Greaves Motorsport will each run a Zytek Z11SN-Nissan. DKR Engineering is entering the only ELMS Lola B11-40-Judd in the greatest endurance race in the world, and two other ORECA 03-Nissans will take the start thanks to Boutsen Ginion Racing and Murphy Prototypes. Lastly, after having secured its first podium finish of the ELMS season, Signatech Alpine Nissan will be looking for the No.36 to shine on the marque's return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Also on the Imola podium and after having showed great performances at the first ELMS round in Silverstone, Morand Racing will enter the only Morgan-Judd ELMS of the Le Mans 24 Hours race.
The sole ELMS entry in LMGTE Pro is credited to the British JMW Motorsport team which will run alongside a great number of other Ferraris; the No.66 F458 is currently in 4th place in LMGTE in the 2013 ELMS points' standings.
Completing the 15 ELMS competitors are four teams which will be entered in the LMGTE Am category. The Italian AF Corse team will have the No.54 and No.55 Ferrari 458 Italias, while IMSA Performance Matmut will race its Porsche 911 GT3 against that of the German Proton Competition team.
The car at the top of the LMGTE Am reserve list is that of Prospeed Racing, another Porsche 911 GT3, which could make its way onto the list of 56 cars allowed to take the start of the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans should another LMGTE Am car withdraw.
The European Le Mans Series reinforces once more its close and harmonious working relationship with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest.
