A minute’s silence for the attacks of 11th September 2001

ELMS - 11/09/2011

Ten years ago the United States and the whole world were shocked by the attacks of 11th September, which caused 3000 deaths. In homage to the victims and their families and all those who helped them, the start of the Autosport 6 hours of Silverstone was preceded by one minute of silence.

“It's a good acknowledgement,' Patrick Long, the American driver in the Proton Competition team said. “It's a difficult day for many people throughout the world, not just the Americans but for all those affected by the attacks.”

“It's incredible that it's already ten years,” Long continued. “At the time I was racing in Formula Ford. I was living in England. That day changed the face of the world. It's good that we remember it today. You can't live as if it didn't happen, and I hope it'll be remembered in ten years time.”

But the American won't think about it when he's behind the wheel. “When I race, I forget everything else. But as an American I can't forget which day it is. The 11th September changed our way of living, of travelling, of seeing the world. I hope there's more peace in the world now than on that day.”
