24 Hours of Spa in halftone for the Le Mans Series drivers

ELMS - 01/08/2011

The kick-off of the 63rd edition of the 24 Hours of Spa was given at 4 pm. The crews held a particularly intense rhythm during the whole race, eventful from the start.

Bad luck for the Prospeed Competition team

Starting from the front of the grid, Marc Goossens' Porsche 911 GT3RS was immediately positioned as a leader against his pursuers. And then ... "I have never imagined such a thing, not even during a nightmare”, said Rudi Penders, team manager of the team from Liege.

Indeed, in the braking of the "Bus Stop" chicane a collision took place between the team's two Porsches. The damage is significant; the team immediately loses the lead and any chance to obtain excellent results. An enormous disappointment for Goossens-Soulet-Heylen and for the crew led by Nicolas De Crem in "Pro-Am".

The team returned to the track with their two cars less than an hour after the incident. Unfortunately for a short time, since in the early evening, the two Porsches finally abandoned.

A poorly rewarded good performance for Olivier Pla, Julien Jousse and Patrice Goueslard On the occasion of the Belgium endurance race the Jousse, Pla and Goueslard were in the Top 5 for a long time at the wheel of the Team Sofrev-ASP Ferrari 458. Starting from the eleventh line, the team was positioned in the top ten after five hours. The drivers continued at full tilt, progressing hour after hour. The night was synonymous with good luck for Olivier Pla and his teammates, and even with the rain, the car reached fourth place.

Unfortunately, in the early morning, a first problem occurred: a broken exhaust. The team did not admit defeat but the troubles continued, forcing it to stop the adventure in the 18th hour.

"It's a big disappointment," says Olivier. "We had the means to fight for the podium. We were very homogeneous with Patrice and Julien. We were able to express ourselves and show our qualities. We are not rewarded for our efforts, but we will not give up. We must use this experience for the future. "

After a well deserved rest, the Le Mans Series drivers will be back on the track on 9th, 10th and 11th of September for the Silverstone Autosport 6 hours.
